CLC In the Community and in the News

Concerned Lay Catholics provides concrete support for all victims of sexual abuse in our community by supporting services that offer community education and treatment. For the past two years, members of Concerned Lay Catholics participated in the annual Walk Off The Turkey event for Thrive Child and Youth Trauma Services raising funds to support children and youth who have experienced the trauma of sexual abuse. In our first year, we raised $6200! We see this gesture as making reparation in some small way, for the harm done by our church leaders. We encourage lay Catholics in other communities to look for ways to foster health and healing for abuse victims/survivors in your community.

The Covid pandemic meant a self-organized walk with masks and no large gatherings of walkers. While we did not reach last year’s goal, we still raised $600 for Thrive and had a healthy, fun walk! This year the walk highlighted the Black Lives Matter movement and the need to improve access to services for BIPOC communities, so that everyone can thrive.
