What of the 99%? – A contribution to the Synod on Synodality

The Australian Cardijn Institute (ACI) an organization that aims to promote research and offer training programs for community and church leaders,  has published their submission to the Synod on Synodality and their submission addresses the reality that 99% of Catholics belong to the Laity, that they live and have their vocation in the midst of the secular world:

“They are called there by God that by exercising their proper function and led by the spirit of the Gospel they may work for the sanctification of the world from within as a leaven. In this way they may make Christ known to others, especially by the testimony of a life resplendent in faith, hope and charity.”

They go on to therefore stress the importance of considering the formation of Lay Catholics, to recognise their Baptismal charge of priest, prophet, and leader and to give them the tools they need to most effectively minister, within their vocation, the mission of the church.
