An Invitation For Survivors And Their Families
Concerned Lay Catholics is reaching out to survivors of clergy sexual abuse and their family members in the dioceses of London, Hamilton, and St. Catharines to invite them to learn more about Walking With Survivors, a new pilot initiative grounded in listening, compassion, and respect.
The hope of this project is simple but important: to hear directly from survivors about what would genuinely support healing and accountability in the Church today, and to bring that wisdom forward in conversation with the bishops of these dioceses
This summer, as the initial step in this project, we are hosting a small gathering of survivors at a peaceful rural property in southern Ontario, generously made available by friends of CLC. Surrounded by quiet woods, open farm fields, walking trails, shaded gathering spaces, and a tranquil pond, the location offers a gentle and restorative setting intended to foster reflection, safety, hospitality, and healing.
The purpose of the gathering will be to hear directly from survivors and will be supported by a certified restorative practice facilitator with experience working with trauma survivors.
Participation is entirely voluntary, confidential, and survivor-informed. There is no pressure to share personal details. We recognize that every survivor’s journey is different. If, at this time, all you wish is to learn more about the initiative, that is enough.
If you are a survivor or a family member who would like more information — with absolutely no obligation — please contact Brenda Coleman of CLC’s Walking With Survivors team confidentially at: clcbc@gmail.com
Please note this email account is accessible only to Brenda. Brenda will be happy to provide additional information and answer any questions you may have.
If it would feel more comfortable, Brenda can also arrange for you to have a conversation with one of the survivors (male or female) helping to shape this initiative. Just let her know when you contact her.
And if you are not a survivor yourself but know someone who may wish to hear about this opportunity, we would be grateful if you would pass this message along. Sometimes healing begins simply by knowing that someone is willing to listen.
